Mansfield defeats North Caddo and captures their first girls basketball championship

ALEXANDRIA, LOUISIANA- North Caddo Lady Rebels senior guard Destiny Rice  left the game with 3 minutes remaining in the first half with an injury and the Mansfield Lady Wolverines capitalized. The Lady Wolverines defeated North Caddo 42-34 Saturday  in the LHSAA Class 2A state basketball championship. The game was played at the Rapides Parish Coliseum, venue for the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl/girls’ March Madness Tournament presented by the New Orleans Pelicans. The Wolverines win spoiled the Lady Rebels chance at back-to-back state championships.

Mansfield’s win spoiled the Lady Rebs chance at winning back-to-back titles for the second time in five years. North Caddo has won the state championship  4 times since 2014. The Lady Rebels won it all in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018.

The game was close unitl Rice left the game. In the press conference after the game,  Rice said that she hurt her knee.

Lady Rebels leading scorer in the game fouled out

To add insult to injury; the Lady Rebels leading scorer in the game Sadie Stewart fouled out in the second half. Stewart scored 11 of the North Caddo 34 points. senior Sadah Martin scored 8 points and Reven Sims scored six.

Mansfield was led by Sha’Kahla Warmsley.  Warmsley, a 5’11 junior scored 17 points and was named the games MVP.
