Rangers beat Dodgers 7-2 in Glendale

The Rangers lost to the Dodgers, 7-2, on Friday afternoon in Glendale, ending the club’s spring-high 4-game win streak.

Solo home runs by Ronald Guzmán (7th inning) and Sherten Apostel (8th inning) provided the Rangers’ only runs. Guzmán hit a 2-strike, opposite-field blast off Kenley Jansen, boosting his spring slash line to .346/.433/.769/1.203 (9-26). He has hits in 4 straight and 9 of his 11 games overall, is tied with Joey Gallo for the team lead in hits (9), and ranks T2nd with 3 home runs (5-Gallo, 3-Guzmán/Nick Solak).

Southern California native Jason Martin finished 3-for-4, his team-leading 2nd 3-hit game this spring. Martin is 7-for-12 in his last 6 ‘A’ games. David Dahl doubled to extend his hitting streak to 4 straight games at 6-for-11.

Texas starter Kyle Cody (2.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R-ER, 1 BB, 1 SO) took the loss and exited with one out in the 3rd inning following a 2-run double by Edwin Rios, one of 8 extra-base hits (all doubles) among the Dodgers’ 15 total hits on the day. Hyeon-jong Yang was effective in his 3.0 innings out of the bullpen, permitting just one run and striking out 4 batters. Matt Bush worked a scoreless 8th, as he has not allowed a run in 4 games/4.0 IP spanning both A and B games this spring.

The Rangers return to Surprise on Saturday for an 8:05 p.m. CT contest against the Seattle Mariners. LHP Wes Benjamin (0-0, 1.50) will look to continue his strong spring, as he is slated to make his 4th appearance/3rd start opposite Mariners RHP Robert Dugger (1st outing). Matt Hicks and Jared Sandler will be on the call for a radio broadcast on 105.3 The Fan.
